Florida's premier civic education and leadership development program.
The Florida YMCA Youth and Government program is Florida's premier civic education and leadership development program that empowers teens in grades 6-12 to become informed, engaged, and responsible citizens. For more than 70 years, the program has provided young people with hands-on opportunities to explore the democratic process, develop leadership skills, and connect with teens from across the state. Throughout the year, participants research current issues, draft legislation, prepare arguments, and collaborate with peers. For high schoolers, these experiences culminate at State Assembly, held in Tallahassee, Florida each year. For middle schoolers, these experiences culminate at a regional one-day event. Teens can participate through a local YMCA, school, or community group/organization. Youth and Government provides the opportunity for teens to earn service hours, college credits, and lasting connections. Regardless of age, Youth and Government provides the skills, knowledge, and resources to lead with purpose and make a lasting impact.
